LUDWIG RĖZA CULTURE CENTRE
In 2003, a century later, the old school was given a new purpose and became the Juodkrantė Exhibition House.
In 2007, the Juodkrantė Exhibition House was reorganised as the Ludwig Rėza Culture Centre.
In 2008, the Curatorium (Council) of the Ludwig Rėza Culture Centre was established.
The Ludwig Rėza Culture Centre is a municipal budgetary institution of Neringa Municipality. The rights and responsibilities of the institution’s owner are exercised by the Neringa Municipal Council.
The Centre aims to meet and develop the cultural needs of all age groups within the local community, preserve and continue the region’s traditions, foster ethnic culture, organise amateur and professional arts events, and provide other cultural services. Its activities are multifunctional.
In pursuing these objectives, the Ludwig Rėza Culture Centre:
- supports the cultural development of residents, creative freedom and artistic self-expression, and encourages children, young people and older residents to take part in cultural activities;
- promotes professional art and organises the activities of amateur arts groups, clubs and creative circles;
- supports children’s and young people’s engagement and arts education;
- develops and gives meaning to contemporary forms of artistic activity;
- promotes local artists and creators, enables them to participate in exhibitions and other events, and recognises achievements in culture and progressive creative ideas;
- encourages folk art and crafts, safeguards and develops ethnic culture, promotes longstanding traditions and customs, and ensures their continuity;
- helps artists and creators protect their rights and interests before state, municipal and other institutions and organisations;
- develops and delivers educational activities;
- organises commemorations of national holidays and memorial days, community celebrations, concerts, social gatherings, exhibitions, seminars, courses, meetings and other cultural, educational and leisure events;
- represents and promotes the cultural and historical heritage of the Curonian Spit, highlights key moments in the history of Juodkrantė, and presents the important work of Martin Ludwig Rėza in the Centre’s permanent historical exhibition;
- prepares amateur arts groups for participation in Lithuanian Song Celebrations and local, regional, national and international events;
- develops and implements arts education programmes and non-formal education programmes for people of all ages;
- organises training and professional development.
The Centre houses a permanent historical exhibition dedicated to Martin Ludwig Rėza, an eminent figure of the region, and to the history of Juodkrantė. Information in the exhibition is available in Lithuanian, English and German.
Facilities of the Ludwig Rėza Culture Centre:
- two exhibition halls for up to 50 people, suitable for themed evenings, chamber concerts, workshops, lectures and conferences — L. Rėzos St. 8B;
- a concert hall for up to 184 people — L. Rėzos St. 54C-9;
- an outdoor stage for up to 600 people — L. Rėzos St. 54C-9.
